WILLIAMS PARK

Public BBQ

Williams Park proves that Brisbane knows how to do neighbourhood recreation properly. This compact green space punches well above its weight, offering everything families could want without the overwhelming sprawl of larger parks. The basketball court maintains surprisingly good quality for a local facility, while three distinct swing sets cater to different age groups with admirable precision. What struck me most was the park's democratic appeal - locals arrive with dogs in tow, children make good use of two well-designed slides, and there's always some community event unfolding nearby. The BBQ area sits ready for weekend gatherings, complete with that essential Australian amenity: proper toilets. A bubbler ensures nobody goes thirsty during Brisbane's warmer months. The abundant seating areas suggest planners actually considered where people might want to rest - revolutionary thinking in park design. The only minor grumble involves the grass, which grows with typical Queensland enthusiasm and seems to require frequent attention. Still, the groundskeepers maintain everything to impressive standards. It's the sort of place that makes you appreciate how a small, well-considered space can serve an entire community beautifully.
